American basswood (Tilia americana), also called American linden, is a deciduous tree native to eastern North America, including Quebec. It can reach 25 metres in height and a trunk diameter of up to 1 metre. Its habit is broad and rounded, with a rounded crown in young trees that becomes more irregular with age. The leaves are heart‑shaped and measure 10 to 25 cm long. They are dark green above and paler beneath, turning yellow in fall. In early summer, it bears fragrant, pale yellow flowers in drooping clusters that are especially attractive to bees. The fruit is a small, hard nutlet attached to a characteristic leaf‑like bract that aids wind dispersal. American basswood prefers rich, moist, well‑drained soils and is often found in mixed forests and along streams in Quebec.

Furthermore, native lindens (Tilia spp.) are recognized as keystone plants for biodiversity in many North American ecoregions, as they support a wide variety of pollinating insects and birds that rely on their flowers, leaves, and seeds.

Medicinal and culinary uses
Young leaves can be eaten raw or cooked; they have a mild flavour and a tender, slightly mucilaginous texture, ideal for salads. The sap can be used as a refreshing drink or concentrated into syrup as a sweetener. The flowers, mild and fragrant, can be eaten raw in salads or brewed as an infusion. American basswood also has medicinal properties. A flower infusion is antispasmodic, diaphoretic, and sedative. It is used for hypertension, arteriosclerosis, anxiety‑related digestive disorders, colds, respiratory catarrh, and migraines. A tea or tincture of the leaves, flowers, and buds is traditionally employed for nervous headaches, restlessness, and painful digestion. Caution: Frequent consumption of flower tea may damage the heart. Always consult a professional before using any plant for medicinal purposes.

Ecological roles
American basswood plays an essential role in its ecosystem. Its flowers are an important nectar source for bees, contributing to high‑quality honey production. The tree provides habitat and food for many animals, including birds and small mammals. In addition, its leaves feed the caterpillars of certain Lepidoptera, thereby supporting local biodiversity.

American basswood seeds require cold stratification to ensure germination. See the growing notes below for more details.

Truly indestructible
Size: Large, Color: Blue
They are not kidding, this ball is truly indestructible. I've gotten several for my dogs so they have plenty to share. Two of my dogs are beyond super chewers (bully breeds). One of the balls is missing the section that's glued into most of them, but the structure has still held up. And my dogs LOVE them.

Tough STINKY ball
Size: Large, Color: Red
This ball is the only one I've found that my dog can not destroy in seconds. He can chew on it for a few weeks before he works a hole in it. That's the good part. The bad side is the horrible smell! It doesn't seem to bother him, but it is horrible to my nose. It is so awful that I tried soaking it and dish soap and vinegar water overnight to see if I could make it go away. It was a little bit better but still stunk. Anybody got other suggestions on what could make the smell go away?

A good toy for chewers!!
Size: Large, Color: Blue
My dog loves this ball! The best part is that he hasn't destroyed it yet. He's a real chewer and has destroyed several toys since I got him about 6 months ago. The ball is very solid and a the squeak is not annoying. A great toy

My dog loves it, holds up well
Size: Large, Color: Blue
My German Shepherd absolutely loves this ball! He is a pretty aggressive chewer and it has held up really well, not indestructible but it lasts. We currently have three and he always has one in his mouth.

Lasted a year with a Great Dane
Size: Large, Color: Red, Size: Large, Color: Red
It lasted an entire year as my Great Dane’s favorite squeaky ball. The only reason it’s failing is because the squeaker no longer works great.
