Syngonium podophyllum 'Red Spot Tricolor'

Syngonium podophyllum 'Red Spot Tricolor' grows with arrowhead leaves marked in green, cream and pink. New leaves shift their balance of colour as they open, giving the plant a variable tricolour pattern on a climbing Syngonium frame.

The plant starts as a leafy juvenile aroid, then lengthens from the nodes with age. Pruning keeps the pot fuller, while a small support guides the stems upward and can help older leaves size up gradually.

Pink, cream and green patterning in Syngonium podophyllum 'Red Spot Tricolor'

  • Plant type: Variegated Syngonium podophyllum cultivar in the Araceae family.
  • Leaf shape: Juvenile arrowhead leaves with pointed tips and rounded basal lobes.
  • Leaf colour: Green leaf tissue mixed with cream and pink markings.
  • Pattern: Irregular tricolour patches that differ between leaves and growth points.
  • Growth habit: Bushy when young, then gradually vining or climbing from rooted nodes.
  • Support use: Can be grown loose, pruned compact or guided onto a moss pole or small trellis.

Juvenile growth in Syngonium podophyllum 'Red Spot Tricolor'

'Red Spot Tricolor' is usually sold in its juvenile foliage stage. Young leaves stay simple and arrow-shaped, while older supported stems can produce larger and more divided foliage. In normal indoor pots, regular pruning keeps the plant leafy and prevents bare lengths of stem from taking over the pot.

Pink and cream sectors benefit from filtered light and steady watering. Direct sun can scorch pale tissue, while dim conditions stretch the stems between leaves.

Care for Syngonium podophyllum 'Red Spot Tricolor'

  • Substrate: A chunky aroid mix with bark, coco chips, perlite or pumice keeps air around the roots and drains excess water quickly.
  • Watering: Water after the upper 30–40% of the substrate has dried, especially if the pot is densely planted.
  • Light: Keep the plant in bright indirect light; direct midday sun can burn pink and cream sections.
  • Humidity: Moderate to higher humidity keeps new tricolour leaves from crisping while they unfold.
  • Pruning: Cut above nodes when stems become sparse, then let side shoots rebuild the pot.
  • Temperature: Keep between 18–27 °C and avoid cold draughts after watering.
  • Propagation: Root stem cuttings with at least one node in water, sphagnum or a light propagation mix.
  • Repotting: Repot once roots circle the pot or watering becomes uneven from a crowded root ball.
  • Fertilising: Use a balanced fertiliser at reduced strength during active growth.
  • Semi-hydro: Inert substrates are suitable if old organic soil is removed carefully and new roots are monitored.

Tricolour leaf issues in Syngonium podophyllum 'Red Spot Tricolor'

  • Brown pink areas: Direct sun, dry roots or damaged new leaves can mark the softer coloured tissue.
  • Yellow lower leaves: Usually point to overwatering, poor drainage or a pot that stays wet too long.
  • Long bare stems: Insufficient light or missed pruning lets the plant stretch between nodes.
  • Root rot: Dense compost and standing water can quickly soften the roots and base of the stems.
  • Pests: Watch the nodes, petioles and leaf undersides for spider mites, aphids, mealybugs and scale.

Pet and sap safety for Syngonium podophyllum 'Red Spot Tricolor'

Leaves and stems contain calcium oxalate crystals that can irritate the mouth and throat if chewed. Keep it out of reach of pets and small children, and avoid rubbing your eyes after handling cut stems.

Works great!
Color: Storage Cover Black, Size: Rechargeable
I bought this because the frother I had was very weak. Even with new batteries, it just never had much oomph. I liked the idea of it being rechargeable and no more batteries! I expected to have to charge it when it came, but it had full power. I have used it every day since it arrived, and it hasn't slowed down a bit. It is easy to use, just pushing down with my thumb on the top. I also love that it has a lid/case. When I bring it on a trip it is fully protected from damage. I highly recommend this frother. It is the best one I have had - and I have had quite a few.

Works way better than its price would suggest
Color: Storage Cover Black, Size: Rechargeable
A family member got frothed milk in their coffee and loved it, so they started doing it at home. They were using a wand mixer which is great at splashing milk all over creation but not very good at actually frothing it. I asked them what kind of frother they wanted and they gave me 2 criteria: Rechargeable, and inexpensive. They didn't want to spend a lot on something they might not like or might outgrow, and they didn't want to constantly be looking for batteries. This frother fits the bill. It recharges with a regular USB-C cable and comes with a short one (but not a wall plug so make sure you have one of those). It was also less than $11 delivered so not a lot to gamble on an occasional-use gadget. Does it work? Absolutely, and a lot better than I ever thought it would. I was given a demonstration and in 10 seconds I saw a small cup of half and half turn into frothy foam. I'll admit, it does taste pretty good in coffee. I 3D printed a stand to hold the mixer upright on the counter. Otherwise the base is too small and it tips over. That's not a complaint, just an observation. If you want it to stand upright, you'll have to do something similar. Otherwise, this thing is a good combination of simple, inexpensive, and effective.

I’m really happy with this electric milk frother. It is easy to use, rechargeable, and makes rich, creamy foam in just a few seconds. It works great for coffee, lattes, cappuccinos, and even hot chocolate. The design is sleek and comfortable to hold, and it is very easy to clean after use. The battery lasts well, and I like that I don’t need disposable batteries. Overall, this is a great product for anyone who enjoys making coffee drinks at home. Highly recommended!

I've had my Circle Joy Frother since May 11th, and I've have used it every day. It's the best frother I've ever ordered or owned. It's powerful, works great and it's rechargeable, no batteries to buy for this one. I'll buy this one again if or when it stops working. I'm very satisfied.

Game Changer for Coffee Lovers
Color: Storage Cover Black, Size: Rechargeable
I purchased the Circle Joy Rechargeable frother mostly because of the price. The frothy-whipped cream is a treat on the weekends, and the last hand frother I purchased zapped out. WoW - this one is amazing! The last one I had was battery operated, and wasn't as fast as this one. I now use it everyday because it works so quickly. It comes with a "lid" for the blender part, so I can toss in my briefcase. Love that recharges quickly so its ready when I am. Great price, easy to use, looks sleek, and tiny enough to take with you. LOVE, FiVE Stars
